State of North Carolina             Know all men by these
Robeson County

 present that we Lemuel Taylor,
 All of the County and State aforsaid and hold
 And firmly bound unto his Excellency Cabill
Honor Governor of the said state for the time
being and his Sucessors in Office in the sum of
One hundred and twenty five pounds lawful
money of the said state for which payment
well and tuly to be made we find xxxx
our xxx Executory and administrative xxx
and xixcallly by these present Sealed with
our Seal and dated the 10th day of March

  1. D. 1822.

The condition of this obligation is
Such that when the above xour and Lemuel Taylor

…. Hath made application for a license
for a marriage to be Contracted between
himself and Elizabeth Phillips of said County

Now therefore of it shall never hereafter appear
that there is any lawful cause to obstruct
the said marriage then this obligation to be
void and of no effect otherwise to remain in
full force and virtue

Lemuel Taylor's will (3 pages)

I Lemuel Taylor of the State and County aforsaid being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make ordain constitute and declare this my last will and testament in manor and form following

That is to say

First that my executors herein after named shall provide for my body a descent burial suited to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all just debts howsoever or to whom so ever owing out of the money that may first come into their hands as a part or parcel of my estate.

Item and I give and devise to my youngest daughter Mary Taylor one half of my plantation where so ever I now live viz., commensing at the north end of my lane and run with said lane to the south end of said lane from there direct to the Juniper Branch to have and to hold all the east end of said plantation from the said lane and Long Branch and Juniper Branch together with Timber to keep plantation in repair and firewood, etc during the term of her natural life then if the said shall have bodily heir or heirs the said land shall belong to them nevertheless if the said die leaving nobody heir to the same shall belong to the heirs of my youngest son Henry Taylor share and share alike to be theirs and at their disposal forever.

Item I give and devise to my youngest daughter Mary Taylor all the crops and provisions on hand at my decease together with two sows and five pigs Two ewes and lambs Two cows and calves all the farming utensils all cooking utensils and half the beds and furniture all to be held at her disposal forever.

Item and I give and devise to my daughter in law Mary Taylor widow of the late John Taylor the other half of the Gibbons land containing one hundred and twenty five acres the West end of the said tract to be hers and at her disposal during the time of her natural life then to go to her five sons share and share alike to be theirs and at their disposal forever.

Item I give and devise to my son Henry Taylor all the balance of my land not otherwise disposed of in this my last will and testament lying on both sides of the said Long Branch to be his and at his disposal forever.

Item and I give and devise to my daughter Lindsey Pitman wife of Henry Pitman Ten Dollars to be paid by my two sons Henry and Willis Taylor Five Dollars by each one of them which Ten Dollars together with the other advancements I have made to her since her marriage will make her an equitable share with the rest of my children to be hers and at her disposal forever.

Item and if there shall be any heir or heirs that have not been named in this my last will and testament my will and desire is that they shall have one dollar each to be paid by my executor out of the money that may first come into their hands as a part and parcel of my estate to be their and at their disposal.

And lastly I do appoint my two trusty friends and sons viz., Henry Taylor and Willis Taylor my lawful executors for all contents and purposes to execute this my last will and testament according to the true intent and meaning of xxxx and every part and clause thereof hereby xxxxing and declaring uterly void all other all other wills and testaments by me heretoforth made

In witness thereof I the said Lemuel Taylor doth hereunder set my xxxx and affix my Seal This the 8th day of January Ano Domini One Thousand Eight Hundred Seventy Six

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Lemuel Taylor to be his last will and testament in the presence of us when at his request and in his presence do subscribe our names in witness testiment
